IMRT
(Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy)

Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) is a type of 3-dimensional radiation therapy delivery that uses advanced technology to customize and guide treatment. Mulitleaf collimators within the linear accelerator allow for the radiation beams to be conformed to the shape of the target while simultaneously varying the intensity of the radiation beams.

These beams of radiation may be delivered to precise locations within the tumor. Because IMRT is so precise, this therapy is able to maximize radiation dose while minimizing damage to healthy tissue, organs, and any side effects of the treatment itself.

Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy

IMRT is especially useful for irregularly shaped tumors or those adjacent to critical structures. IMRT is most frequently used to treat prostate, breast, and lung cancers. Our doctors will consult with you to determine if IMRT is the right treatment option for you.
